Every day, thousands of people die, are born, realize their dreams, or never see the world the same way again. Our world is beautiful and massive. What happens around it on any given day is a mystery--until now.
One Day on Earth is on a mission to create a unique worldwide media event where thousands of participants simultaneously film over the course of 24 hours. Those 24 hours will fall on October 10th, 2010 (10.10.10) and everyone, literally, is invited to help record the human experience. From professional directors to students to everyday individuals, a growing grassroots movement of people from every continent are signing up to help capture the diversity of life and culture on this planet (an interactive map of current participants shows you the reach of the project).
The footage from this project will be edited into a 120-minute documentary--a gift to the world. But more than just a movie, the footage will also be made available as a way to connect the community via web platform at onedayonearth.org.
The site hosts everything from instructions to educational tool kits and, anticipating the empathy the whole thing will generate, they've even set up various ways to organize for charity.
If this project sounds similar to the previously Character Approved Life in a Day documentary, it is. Both documentaries share a similar vision, and both wish to capture a slice of the human experience. They aren't the same film though, so now you can double your viewing--or participating--pleasure!
