There was a time when you could have called Sufjan Stevens a cult figure. Those who knew him worshipped him, but they were by far in the minority. But after the release of Illinois, that gap has been considerably lessened and his fame considerably bolstered.
Now with the upcoming dual release of his All Delighted People EP and The Age of Adz album, he's poised to come back from a period in his career that could be called a fairly busy hiatus.
What originally drew many people to Sufjan's music was the well-orchestrated, folk sound that predominated his Michigan and Seven Swans records. With Age of Adz, he returns to the electronic-tinged sound that was present in his earlier works. But no matter if you're a longtime fan or newcomer to his work, you'll enjoy this Character Approved record.
