Remember bringing your plastic bottles in to the supermarket for recycling? Yep, a penny saved is a penny earned and at five cents a pop, those bottles of pop certainly add up!
As it turns out, those bottles add up for more than just you and paying for recycling isn't just a feel-good move. City municipal waste systems spend thousands of dollars every year on processing garbage that could be recycled, which means that keeping those items out of the landfill saves your city a lot too!
Realizing this hole in the system, RecycleBank set out with a Character Approved model to save the planet, save the city budget by reducing the amount of trash processed in landfills, and reward people who are doing the right thing by recycling as much as possible.
The company runs recycling collection services in partnership with multiple cities around the country. Participating households simply sign up to have their recycling bins outfitted with special ID tags. These bins are then weighed each time they are collected, and the weight of the recycled goods translates into points which can then be redeemed at over 1,500 local and national businesses. The more you recycle, the more points you earn that can be used to purchase everything from products from Ebay to supplies at Rite Aid.
Signing up is a great way to reuse and get rewarded in the process. Register for an account in a city near you here and start saving up those pennies in the RecycleBank!
