Collaborative Consumption Redefines Using and Sharing

Written By Jerri Chou

Jan 21, 2011

As with most things in the age of digital distribution, consumption is often better when done together. What's Mine is Yours: The Rise of Collaborative Consumption is a book and movement that's exploring the rise of new models of consumption that are disrupting business as usual. From enormous marketplaces (eBay and Craigslist) to emerging sectors like social lending (Zopa), and car sharing (Zipcar), this new book takes a look at platforms that are changing the ways people exchange--whether it's unused space, goods, skills, money, or services.

Spearheaded by innovative thinker Rachel Botsman, What's Mine is Yours is a Character Approved celebration of the future of sharing, bartering, lending, trading, renting, gifting and swapping that's happening every day, all over the world--and the redefinition of these familiar concepts through technology. With all of this momentum, it's no wonder that TIME magazine named the collaborative consumption movement as one of their Top 10 of Everything in 2010.

The book goes beyond words on the page. It provides access to a collaborative hub, where the collective of authors provide resources, stories, infographics, and tools to fuel the movement. Even better? These offerings are paired with digital forums where you can discuss and spread your own innovative ideas on consumption to keep things moving in the right direction.
