The recipe for a good watch typically includes: wristband, watch hands, face/dial...done and done. But what if designers were to step out of that line of thinking and begin to reinterpret time differently? What if they threw a few new ingredients into the recipe?
Or, what if they made up their own recipe?
Podvaal has done just that.
Podvaal is a Russian design studio that created the concept for this Revolve Watch, which consists of three magnetic bracelets, with each bracelet serving a different function: hours, minutes, and seconds. When worn together, Revolve tells the time just like a regular watch. However, because the different parts of time are separate, you can choose to wear only one or two, and rearrange time in any fashion you wish.
Revolve blurs the line between form and function. Because, as the wearer, you completely control how you wear and use Revolve, you can manipulate and reinterpret time as you wish. Choose to count the seconds of every day, or simply live hour to hour.
Although this design is still in the concept phase, I'm hopeful that Povaal will soon find a manufacturer.
