A Bench for Hanging Around

Written By Jaime Derringer

Jun 6, 2011

Jaime Derringer

After browsing the aisles of the International Contemporary Furniture Fair this year and feeling a bit let down by the lack of innovation in contemporary design (and I wasn't alone), it's nice to see something truly innovative.

Emanuele Magini created the Siesta bench for Italian furniture maker Campeggi--or should I call it a hench or a bammock? Combining the silhouette of a traditional wooden bench with the comfort of a hammock, the Siesta allows you to cozy up with a pal or get more comfortable on days when you want to watch the clouds roll by. When I look at this piece, I'm instantly relaxed just by the idea of it--it evokes a strong sense of emotion through its design.

Now that summer is almost here, I'm thinking ahead to the lazy, hot days by the pool or laying in the yard. A design like this would make the perfect, Character Approved escape.
