Charitable Fashion: Falling Whistles

Written By Kristin Booker

In many cities across the United States and the world, you can spot individuals sporting a new fashionable accessory. Far from the glitz of diamonds or the rock 'n' roll punch of leather, it's a whisper of style that silently sounds the alarm for those who cannot. It is a simple whistle, the symbol of Falling Whistles.

Falling Whistles is a charitable organization founded by Sean Carasso, whose travels led him to Congo, a war-torn nation where children are snatched from their beds at night and forced to fight for rebel forces.

While all the children abducted by the rebel forces are made to fight, the youngest and smallest of them--too tiny to hold guns--are given one single weapon: a whistle. They are to blow the whistle to startle opposing forces and to absorb the first rounds of fire--mere children charged with a decision beyond their young comprehension.

FW_Store_Brushd_large.jpgThe accessories made by Falling Whistles--available in brushed metal, bronze, copper, and limited-edition 24-karat gold--are a symbol meant to sound the alarm of this injustice. The proceeds go directly to Falling Whistle's partners, local and regional leaders in Congo, to rehabilitate and advocate for those who have been affected by this war. We can do something. We can sound the whistle on injustice in the world. We can all become whistle-blowers for peace.

One man has made a world of impact fighting the injustice he saw in war-torn Congo. For answering the question "What can I do?" with a resolute decision to spread the message and take action, we salute Sean Carasso and Falling Whistles. These stylish accessories and the powerful story they tell are most certainly Character Approved.
