Remember when I mentioned that Karim Rashid discussed the need for airlines to move away from the archetype? I think this is what he was talking about.
Airbus recently unveiled their concept plane and cabin, a whole new way of traveling that they expect could be part of the flying experience in 2050. The cabin itself is made of a bionic network of bone-like structures, including an intelligent wall membrane that can become transparent to offer panoramic in-flight views (even under your feet!).
The seats are interchangeable with swivel action. Offering a "revitalizing" experience, they morph to your body for ultimate comfort.
They've also completely done away with the idea of classes. No longer will you see that curtain up front closed, or that bathroom denied to you. Instead, Airbus has catered to the needs of its passengers by creating zones dedicated to different activities. For example, you can spend some time in the relaxation zone, or in the game zone where you can play some virtual golf. In the social areas, you can interact with other passengers or have virtual meetings.
I don't know about you, but even though seeing the Alps or the Grand Canyon under my feet sounds like science fiction (and a bit scary), I'm looking forward to Airbus making this concept a reality.
For considering how to make flights more enjoyable to passengers, this design concept is Character Approved.
The Telegraph spoke to Charles Champion, Head of Engineering for Airbus who explained all of the technological ins and outs of the cabin. Watch the video below to learn more:
