My Character Approved by Travis Fine

Travis Fine

Travis Fine wrote and directed the Characters Unite Film THE SPACE BETWEEN, making its world television premiere on Sunday, September 11 at 9/8c.

After spending the last eight months working non-stop on my new film, it's a quiet little joy
to stop and reflect on the Character Approved things that matter to me...

1. Avid Media Composer. I'm in the middle of editing my latest film and I'm still amazed at just how quickly and fluidly my editor and I can try various options and make changes to the picture. Sitting in editorial, I often flash back to cutting my first 16mm short films on an old Steenbeck and am so thankful for new technology.

But, I'm also partial to the Coppola because I have a huge amount of respect for Francis Coppola the filmmaker... and even more respect for Francis Coppola the man, who walked away from the movie business to pursue his other passions.

3. Casa Dorada in Cabo San Lucas. An absolutely beautiful hotel and the best location in Cabo. Direct access to Medano Beach with the raucous Mango Deck (where my wife and I love to grab lunch and people watch) and The Office (our favorite spot for dinner in Cabo). And just a short walk from the marina where we like to eat at Arts & Sushi and then hit the nightclubs.

4. Arthur Phillips novels. Arthur is an old friend from Minneapolis and one of the most talented authors writing today. I've read Prague, Angelica, The Egyptologist, and The Song is You (which I read poolside at the above mentioned Casa Dorada in Cabo). I'm looking forward to having the time to finally read his latest, The Tragedy of Arthur.

Who knew that I would end up loving this car just as much as my big, German gas guzzler? So smart, so ergonomic, and so easy to drive. I might be a hybrid convert for life.

6. 60 Minutes. I don't watch much TV besides SportsCenter and Lakers games, but I record 60 Minutes every week to play back when I have some free time. What a pleasure to spend some time in front of the TV and walk away feeling just a little smarter and a little more informed about the world around me. Not many shows on television you can say that about.

TF_n144917055340_7056934_2616976.jpg7. The Lakers. I've been a huge fan ever since moving to Los Angeles in 1985 and going to the Forum to watch Magic, Kareem, and the "Showtime" Lakers. I rarely miss a game on TV and manage to get to a few games at Staples each season. My four- and six-year-olds are fans now as well--they love to watch the games with me and cheer for their favorite player, Kobe Bryant.

8. My kids. I have three kids: Savannah (17), Eliana (6), and Levi (4). Being a father to the three of them has taught me to appreciate the differences in all of us... They are all completely unique and special individuals who have each required different parenting skills. Despite all of the daily challenges they throw my way, I am truly blessed to have them in my life.

9. My wife, Kristine. She is my life partner, my love partner, and my business partner. She has produced two of my three children and two of my three films. She truly does make my life complete.
