When trying to turn your friends on to new bands, you always want to give them a "hook" to intrigue them (and help them to remember which group you're talking about). Unfortunately for me, Real Estate's hook is that they're a really great, unassuming pop group without many bells and whistles to them.
You might not think that's much of a reason to listen to a band, but please reserve judgments until after the last track on Real Estate's Character Approved new album Days is finished. This record is just one pop gem after another, presented with such warmth that your friends are likely to be left with nothing to say other than, "Can we hear that again?"
The best example of Real Estate's distilled pop music is their single "It's Real." The song is so brief and ethereal that it's hard to pin it down. A positive track that's likely to wind up as your sunny day whistling music, it's the kind of song that's frankly impossible to hate.
