There's something so perfect about the combination of wood and metal. Even better--recycled and reused wood and metal.
Brooklyn-based furniture company 31 and Change is reinventing old furniture one piece at a time. From a file cabinet storage table to a bench made from old chairs, this small design studio is one to keep an eye on.
Run by Kurt Lenard, who uses his discerning eye as a graphic designer and art director, 31 and Change's unique pieces are the perfect marriage between nature and modern design. Utilizing tree parts and colorfully painted wood and metal, the pop of color is just what these pieces need to make them current. Talk about someone else's trash becoming treasure. I particularly love the whimsical Norman coat racks.
But the recycling isn't the only reason they're Character Approved. They also donate two trees to plantabillion.org for every piece of furniture that is purchased.
