Tracking Detroit's Progress

Written By Chad Smith

Jan 17, 2012

Chad Smith
Curbed, the blockbuster real estate website that turns dreary home listings into entertainment, started by tracking the ins and outs of real estate in New York City. The site has been adding new cities for the last few years, expanding so that it now has a Curbed National to track, well, everything in the US. The website has always been written with a light, fun, and humorous tone, and it is a testament to the writers there that the sensibility hasn't been diluted as they have expanded.

Their latest entry is Curbed: Detroit. The project is Character Approved because it is counter to the current trends in Detroit journalism: decay porn, pie-in-the-sky urban renewal projects, or rah-rah boosterism. Curbed Detroit puts us on the ground in the city, and with the Curbed point of view: local issues affecting Detroit's development, new projects on the boards, or even silly adventures in real estate.  The result is a real estate blog that tracks Detroit's progress, and gives people access to what is happening there in real time. And by highlighting real estate listings, it gives everyone a way to support Detroit that creates a sustainable city (buy a house and live there!).
