You've Never Seen Cowhide Like This Before

Written By Jaime Derringer

I just bought a cowhide rug in the classic style and shape, and I've been ooh-ing and aah-ing over it. However, I realized I don't often see this material being used in too many other ways or forms. Here and there I'll see a cowhide-covered seat cushion or pillow, but not many designs stray from its original appearance.

Enter Kyle Bunting. He's been making unique, artistic cowhide rugs for a few years now, and each and every season it seems he finds a new way to use it. His latest series explores geometric forms like circles, kaleidoscope shapes, and trellis. The most remarkable part about how Kyle designs his rugs is that he moves the grains of hair in various directions to create a unique textural effect that plays with light and shadow.

Located outside of Austin, Kyle and his team come up with some of the most extravagant, eye-popping, and Character Approved designs imaginable. Inspired by nature and his artistic father, Kyle brings something fresh and new into a material I never thought could be so dramatically altered. Early last year, he also launched a collection of hide wall coverings.

Read an interview with Kyle on Decorati and see more of his amazing rug and carpet installations.
