Fashion Forward: Six Trends From New York Fashion Week

Written By Kristin Booker

Alas, the tents have come down, but New York Fashion Week certainly made its impact on the world. What are the big trends you'll be seeing come fall? Let's review:

Rich jewel tones: Enticing jewel tones took center stage as seen at Rebecca Minkoff and Vivienne Tam. Look for garnet, ruby, emerald, sapphire, and citrine hues to rule your wardrobe.

Blanket stripes: You certainly won't get cold with this warm fashion staple as seen at Rag & Bone and others. Wrap it up, ladies!

Panel trousers: These slimming pants were seen practically everywhere, including the runways for Mandy Coon & Preen. Look for options that have the highlighted panel on the side you want to emphasize, the darker panel on the side you don't.

Metallic leather and fabrics: A rocker rich option for your basic wardrobe staple, reflective-treated skins were shown at Rag & Bone and Rebecca MInkoff to great effect. Go for statement pieces like a great reflective brocade biker jacket or shimmering dress.

Graphic sweaters: From quirky cool at Diesel Black Gold to '60s mod at DKNY and Betsey Johnson, this fun wardrobe staple is back.

Borrowed from the boys: Ralph Lauren opened his collection with tweeds and menswear-inspired looks à la Downton Abbey, while many other collections jumped on the plaid suiting option like Betsey Johnson. Look for items borrowed from the gents to make their way into daytime dressing to offset the slit-up-to-here gowns for evening.

Excited for fall fashion? We know we are, especially with these amazing fashion trends coming to stores as early as July. Start making a list now so you can take a page from these beautiful, Character Approved collections. Check out some photos in the slide show below for inspiration!
