USA Network is dedicating February to its Characters Unite campaign, a cross-platform effort to ignite a dialogue and emphasize the importance of stopping hate and bigotry. Many stars are jumping in to help their communities these days, but there is a way for you to be a part of the conversation to promote acceptance and tolerance as well.
The campaign's new "I Won't Stand For..." movement is about sending a message that no one should stand idly by in the face of discrimination of any kind. Many of USA Networks' stars, like Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle of Suits, Christopher Gorham of Covert Affairs, Reshma Shetty of Royal Pains, and Marsha Thomason of White Collar will be part of PSAs to air this month. Nathan Lane, John Legend, Octavia Spencer, and others will be at the Los Angeles stop on the Moth and USA's National Storytelling Tour, which aims to use the power of storytelling to foster greater tolerance and acceptance and encourage a more productive dialogue.
Get some insight into just how critical an effort this is by watching the videos online at CharactersUnite.com, including the PSA embedded below:
Professional athletes are helping the cause as well. A special documentary called NFL Characters Unite airs on February 10 (check local listings), and the NFL and USA Network will team up at the Superbowl in Indianapolis with an event to start the conversation.
You can get involved by sharing your story online or by coming out to a pop-up center in your area to make a custom t-shirt about stopping the prejudice plaguing our country. Take a pledge. Tell a story. Learn about the issues. Speak up.
What won't you stand for?
