LEGO taxidermy by David Cole

Written By Jaime Derringer

Jaime Derringer
Over the past six or seven years, faux taxidermy has been a hot design trend. We've seen deer and other animal heads made of wood, cardboard, and even textiles! More recently, as Gen X ages, we're seeing the rise of another new trend--items made out of LEGO bricks. From LEGO's architecture series to cameras and cell phone cases. Even car companies like Ford and VW have jumped on the bandwagon.

Brooklyn web designer David Cole must have seen these trends coming, because he has a little side job going on that's just about as geeky as his day job--he builds taxidermy out of LEGO bricks. He's cleverly combined two hot trends in a way that hasn't been seen before now.

The playful bricks assembled into deer, bears, and foxes are only a few inches tall, but they make for quite the conversation piece for your cubicle wall or the mantle above your teeny tiny fireplace! David works from his apartment in Brooklyn where his floor is constantly covered in thousands of LEGO bricks as he sources parts for his kits.

Read a New York Times interview with David here. You can buy one of the LEGO kits form David's website.
