In industrial and furniture design, it's still a man's world. However, women are slowly emerging and making a name for themselves--and it's about time! If there's one woman product artist today that I admire, it's got to be Lindsey Adelman. The New York-based lighting designer's name is practically synonymous with blown glass chandeliers, and her style has become one coveted by designers and desired by consumers.
Each Bubble Chandelier is hand-blown in NYC by glass artist Michiko Sakano and her team and then hand-assembled by Adelman's studio. But ordering your own Lindsey Adelman lighting fixture is much more than an "add to cart" experience. Each light can be completely customized according to your specifications, with optional finishes and glass techniques, making each one special. Every light is built to order, and each piece is individually made just for you. And, of course, she does tons of custom ones, too.
But if you really want the total DIY experience, Adelman has created something called You Make It, a series of lights you can build yourself. She designed them, created assembly instructions, and directs you to where you can purchase the parts. The rest is up to you--how fun!
Adelman's Character Approved work is available for purchase through her website or at The Future Perfect.
