"Dreaming" of M83

Written By Matt Jordan

Apr 27, 2012

Matt Jordan

With each album release, the members of M83 have expanded their fan base and reached a new level of success. Their latest, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, is easily the biggest jump of their career, garnering them awards, mainstream radio play, and numerous festival appearances.

M83 is the electronica-pop project of French musician Anthony Gonzalez. Previous M83 albums have ranged from synth pop to ambient, but the latest release hits closest to an electronic take on dream pop.

The biggest success of Hurry Up We're Dreaming is the lead single "Midnight City." It's been featured in numerous TV spots, including Victoria Secret's main campaign of 2011, and was ranked best song of the year by Pitchfork and PopMatters. A non-single that's nearly as good is the trippy "Raconte-Moi Une Histoire," which has children describing the beautiful world that opens up after touching a tiny frog in the jungle.

Currently M83 is still promoting the new album. Their 2012 tour takes them from Coachella and Lollapalooza to numerous festivals in Europe. Their live show has only gotten better over the past two years; if you're a fan of this Character Approved group, they're a must-see live.
