Well, it's summertime again and with the Tonys behind us, things are a little quieter in the New York theatre world, but they're still heating up around the country. Here are five Character Approved shows that are not to be missed!
The Producers was a SMASH hit on Broadway, and director choreographer Susan Stroman is directing it for the unique Hollywood Bowl Stage from July 27-29th. Chicago's FREE Grant Park Musical Festival, which takes place in July in Chicago’s Millennium Park, brings performers from around the world for concerts on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. Tony and Grammy winner Jennifer Holliday will reprise her legendary Broadway performance of Effie White in the St. Louis Muny's premiere production of Dreamgirls, July 16 - 22. Holliday will be making her Muny debut, on this, the 30th anniversary of the show's Broadway production. Here in New York, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s beloved musical Into The Woods will play Shakespeare in the (Central) Park with a star-studded cast. One more bit of NY excitement: Roundabout Theatre Company is presenting the new Broadway production of Mary Chase’s Harvey starring Jim Parsons as Elwood P. Dowd.
